We cut tinted and antique mirror to size as well as ordinary silvered mirror. Tinted mirror carries a colour through the reflection: grey, bronze, blue or green. Antique mirror has silvering made to look aged, in silvered, bronze, grey tint and Venetian finishes. All of them are mirror, so none is toughened, and we cut mirror in 4 or 6 mm. The look is hard to judge on a screen, so ask about a sample before you order.
What is the difference between tinted and antique mirror?
A tinted mirror is a mirror with a coloured cast, so the whole reflection takes on a little of that colour. An antique mirror is about the silvering itself: it is made to look aged, so the reflection is softer and less even than an ordinary mirror's. How strong either effect looks depends on the finish and on the light in your room.
Our configurator groups the mirror types like this:
| Mirror type | Finishes you can choose | What to expect |
|---|
| Silvered mirror | Silvered | An ordinary clear reflection |
| Tint mirrors | Grey, bronze, blue, green | A reflection with a grey, bronze, blue or green cast |
| Antique mirror | Silvered, bronze, grey tint, Venetian | Silvering made to look aged, so the reflection is less even |
Descriptions are general. Ask for a sample if the exact look matters.
Which thicknesses do tinted and antique mirrors come in?
We cut mirror in 4 mm and 6 mm, but not every type comes in both. On our supplier's list, silvered, grey tint and bronze tint mirror come in 4 and 6 mm, while blue and green tint mirror come in 6 mm only. Our price calculator only offers the combinations we stock and can cut. For the antique finishes, ask us which thickness is available before you plan around it.
If you are choosing between 4 mm and 6 mm for a large mirror, our article on mirror thickness explains what our size tool suggests and what each thickness weighs.
Are tinted and antique mirrors toughened?
No. We do not toughen mirrors, whatever the finish. That also means any work on the mirror happens at the cutting stage: a polished edge, a bevel and screw holes are all done when the mirror is cut, and a finished mirror cannot be drilled afterwards without cracking it or lifting the silvering. Decide how it will be fixed before you order.
Which edges and shapes can you have?
Mirrors come with a polished edge as standard, or a bevelled edge, which is a wide, angled face that catches the light. Mirrors and table tops are the only pieces we bevel. Our help page on edge finishes explains the difference.
As well as rectangles, the mirror configurator offers more shapes, and a special shape option where you upload a template or a drawing. A mirror with a sloping (raked) edge is priced by hand.
Will the mirror look like the picture?
Not exactly. A screen cannot show a tint or an aged finish accurately, and the antique effect is meant to look aged rather than uniform. That is why we suggest seeing a sample in your own light before you order: a made-to-measure mirror is cut for your space. If several antique pieces will sit side by side, tell us when you order so we can talk it through with you.
How do you see the price?
Choose the mirror type, thickness, size and edge in the configurator and it shows the live price for your exact piece, including VAT. If a finish or size cannot be priced online, the configurator says why and sends it to us for a quote instead of showing a price.
