Approve a splashback colour before ordering

Compare a physical sample with your kitchen, record the colour and glass specification, and avoid relying on a screen preview for colour matching.

Use a physical sample when the finished colour matters. A screen swatch or visualiser helps you shortlist a colour, but it cannot reproduce the light, glass and surrounding materials in your kitchen.

Compare it in the actual room

Place the sample beside the worktop and cupboard finish. Look at it in daylight and under the lighting you normally use. A pale colour beside a warm worktop can look different from the same sample against white paper.

Check which glass the sample uses. Ordinary clear glass can influence a pale finish, while low-iron glass reduces the green cast. A paint code does not, by itself, describe the finished appearance through every glass type and thickness.

Record exactly what you approve

Keep the colour name or code, glass type, thickness, finish and sample reference with your order. If several panels meet, say that they will be viewed together. Do not rely on “same white as the photograph” or a colour selected on someone else's phone.

  1. Shortlist the appearance using the visualiser or colour reference.
  2. Ask which sample represents the proposed finished specification.
  3. Compare it beside the actual materials and lighting.
  4. Record the agreed reference in writing.
  5. Check that the quote and order repeat the same specification.

Separate colour approval from size approval

Approving a sample does not approve the dimensions, socket cut-outs or hob arrangement. Those need their own check. Equally, a correct drawing does not establish that an unspecified colour has been agreed.

If your requested colour is not priced online, send it for a quote. Do not choose a different colour to get through checkout and add the intended colour only in a note. That can leave the price and specification describing different goods.

For a replacement beside an existing panel, tell us its age and any previous order reference. Ask about matching before committing to one new piece. Continue with measuring a splashback once the finish and site details are settled.

Questions we get asked

Is a colour shown on my phone an approval sample?

Treat it as an illustration. Screen settings and lighting can change the appearance. Where colour matching matters, agree the physical reference and glass specification before approving the order.

Can I approve one pane for a multi-panel installation?

Check how the sample relates to the whole run, including glass thickness, backing and lighting. Record the accepted reference so neighbouring panes are ordered on the same stated basis.

What if the room lighting changes later?

Different lighting can change how the same surface looks. Assess the sample in the intended conditions where possible, and distinguish a changed viewing condition from a difference in the supplied product.
