Glass splashbacks: colours, glass and hobs

What our glass splashbacks are made from, the four catalogue colours, low-iron and mirror options, socket cut-outs, and what to know about glass behind a hob.

Every glass splashback we make is 6 mm toughened glass, cut to your measurements. You can choose back-painted glass in one of our four catalogue colours, low-iron glass, or a mirror splashback. We cut holes and socket cut-outs before toughening. Our configurator shows a live price for the colours and glass it prices online.

What thickness is a glass splashback?

A splashback is 6 mm toughened glass. That is the only thickness the splashback configurator offers, and toughening cannot be turned off. Our thickness tool gives the same answer: 6 mm toughened is required behind hobs. Read toughened, laminated and annealed glass for what toughening does.

What colours can I have?

Coloured splashbacks are back-painted glass: the colour is applied to the back of the pane, so you see it through the glass. Our four catalogue colours are:

  • Crispy White
  • White
  • Blue
  • Black

The swatches on screen are approximations. Swatches are a guide, so ask to see a sample before you order if the exact shade matters.

You can also enter a RAL code for any other colour. Our workshop can paint it, but it is not a colour we stock, so a colour outside our four catalogue colours is priced by our team. Choose it in the configurator and we send you a price.

What is low-iron glass and do I need it?

Ordinary clear glass has a faint green tint at its edge. Low-iron glass has much less of that green tint, so whites and pale colours read truer through it. It is not completely colourless. Low-iron glass carries a higher rate per square metre than clear. See glass types for more on each glass.

Can I have a mirror splashback?

Yes. We offer silvered, tinted and antique mirror splashbacks. They are priced by hand by our team for now, so choose one in the configurator and we send you a price.

Can a splashback have socket cut-outs and holes?

Yes. Holes and socket cut-outs are on offer on splashbacks. A splashback is fixed flat to the wall, so it takes no hinges, no hinge cut-outs and no door hardware.

Every socket is measured to its centre, and the cut-out is sized to the back box, not the plate. All cut-outs are made before toughening, because toughened glass cannot be cut afterwards. See holes, notches and cut-outs and measuring a splashback.

Can glass go behind a hob?

Yes, and it must be toughened. Every splashback we make is toughened, so this is already covered. The pane behind a hob takes direct heat, so tell us the hob type and how close the glass sits to it, and we specify the pane to suit. Always follow the hob maker's installation instructions for clearances.

Can I see a colour in my own kitchen first?

Yes. Our splashback visualiser lets you upload a photo of your kitchen or bathroom and try colours and mirror on it. Your photo never leaves your browser. For typical sizes and what drives the cost, try the splashback cost tool, then price your own wall in the configurator.

A raked splashback, with a sloping edge, is priced by hand. Splashbacks also keep the More shapes option for other outlines.
