Preparing for fitting day

A checklist for the day we fit your glass: clear access, a finished room, power, parking, the latest drawing to hand, the balance paid, and someone at home.

A fitting goes smoothly when the room is ready, the route is clear and the balance is settled before the day. Use this checklist in the days before we come. If anything on it cannot be done, tell us before the visit so we can plan around it rather than finding out on the doorstep.

What should I do before the day?

  1. Step 1: Check the opening has not changed

The glass was made to the sizes on your drawing. If tiling, a new tray, boxing in or plastering has happened since we measured, tell us now. Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled on site.

  2. Step 2: Finish the trades

Tiling, grouting, plastering and painting should be complete and dry. Silicone and fixings do not bond well to wet grout or fresh plaster.

  3. Step 3: Clear the room and the route

Clear the bathroom or kitchen, and the route from the front door to it. Large panels need space to turn on stairs and landings.

  4. Step 4: Tell us about access and parking

Let us know about parking restrictions, permit bays, stairs, a lift and its size, a concierge, other trades on site or any building rules for contractors.

  5. Step 5: Have your documents to hand

Keep your order reference, the latest approved drawing and any hardware details together. If the design has changed since you ordered, tell us before the day.

  6. Step 6: Pay any balance due

If your order was paid by deposit, pay the balance before the fitting day. An installation visit is held while a balance is owed, unless a manager releases it for a recorded reason, and the balance is still owed after a release. A date in the diary does not lift the hold. See paying a balance.

  7. Step 7: Keep your phone to hand

The installer texts the UK mobile number we hold for the visit when they are on the way. If we have no mobile number, we call you.

What should I check in the room?

Run through these points the evening before:

  • the shower tray or bath is fixed, level and sealed to the wall
  • pipes and cables behind the fixing points are known, so we drill nowhere near them
  • the shower valve, head and taps are fitted, so we can work around them
  • there is a working socket nearby for tools
  • pets and children can be kept out of the room while glass is carried and fitted

If you know where pipes or cables run in the walls, mark them or tell the installer when they arrive. If you do not know, tell us, and we will discuss it before drilling.

Who needs to be there?

Someone must be at the property for the visit, to let the installer in, agree where fixings go and check the finished work. If someone else will be there for you, tell us who, and agree who can make decisions on the day. At the end, look over the glass, the hardware and the seals with the installer before they leave.

Silicone needs time to cure. Follow the installer's advice on how long to wait before using the shower.

What happens if the job cannot go ahead?

If the installer arrives and the work cannot be done, for example the tray has moved or the room is not finished, they record the reason and we agree a return visit with you. If you know beforehand that the room will not be ready, tell us as soon as you can and ask what needs to be rearranged. See our installation service for how fitting works.

If you found an independent fitter through our directory, agree the arrangements for the day directly with that fitter; see finding a fitter.

Where to go next

Questions we get asked

Do I need to be home all day?

You need someone at the property for the visit. We agree the day with you, and the installer texts when they are on the way.

Can the installer adjust the glass if my tiles have changed?

No. Toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or trimmed once it is made. Tell us about any change before the day so we can check the drawing.

When can I use my shower?

Once the silicone has cured. The installer tells you how long to wait for the sealant used.

What if my balance is not paid on the day?

The visit is held until it is paid. Pay from your order page before the day to avoid a wasted trip.
