Our shower hardware comes in five finishes: polished chrome, satin brushed, matte black, satin brass and polished brass. You pick the finish once in the configurator, and every hinge, channel and bracket on the order follows it where the part is made in that finish. Two parts have exceptions, which this page explains.

What are the five finishes?

FinishWhat it looks like
Polished chromeBright and mirror-like. Matches most chrome taps and shower valves.
Satin brushedA soft, brushed metal look with fine lines. Hides water marks well.
Matte blackA flat black with no shine. Strong contrast against white tiles.
Satin brassA warm gold with a soft, brushed surface.
Polished brassA bright, shiny gold.

Photographs on a screen are never a perfect match for metal. If the match with your taps matters, compare the finish in person at a branch before you order.

Which parts do not come in every finish?

Two exceptions apply:

  • Support bar kits for walk-in screens are not offered in polished chrome. They come in satin brushed, matte black, satin brass and polished brass.
  • The `SWGC83300` wall bracket used on fixed panels over 700 mm wide is not made in polished brass, so it cannot be ordered in that finish.

On a walk-in screen, the wall bracket follows the support bar's finish. With no support bar, it follows the hardware finish you chose for the enclosure. Where a part is not made in your finish, the configurator tells you rather than swapping it for another finish. Read walk-in screens for when a support bar is added.

How do I choose a finish?

  1. Step 1: Start with the taps and valve

Look at the shower valve, the head and the taps in the room. Matching those makes the hardware look planned rather than added.

  2. Step 2: Think about cleaning

Polished finishes show water marks and fingerprints more than satin ones. In hard water areas, a satin or matte finish is easier to keep looking clean.

  3. Step 3: Check the exceptions

If you want polished chrome on a walk-in with a support bar, or polished brass on a fixed panel over 700 mm wide, read the exceptions above first.

  4. Step 4: Pick it in the configurator

Choose the finish in the hardware step. The drawing and your basket list every part in that finish.

How do I look after the finish?

Wipe the hardware with a soft, damp cloth and dry it after use. Use a mild washing up liquid for soap film. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring cream, bleach or limescale removers on any finish: they scratch polished metal and can mark coated finishes such as matte black. Our care and cleaning guide covers the glass as well.

Questions we get asked

Can I mix finishes on one enclosure?

The configurator applies one hardware finish to the enclosure, so the hinges, channel and brackets match. If you want a mix, ask us before you order and we will check what can be supplied.

Why can I not choose polished brass for the wall brackets?

The SWGC83300 bracket is not made in polished brass. The configurator tells you so, and it never substitutes a different finish without asking.

Will matte black fade?

Treat matte black gently. Abrasive cleaners and limescale removers can mark the surface, so clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap only.

Can I see the finishes before I order?

Yes. Visit a branch to see the hardware in person. Check opening hours on our branches page before you travel.
