The glass types we cut are clear, low-iron, grey and bronze tints, satin (etched), patterned glass such as fluted, mirror in silvered, tinted and antique finishes, and back-painted coloured glass. Which ones you can choose depends on the product: the configurator shows only the glass that suits the product you pick.
Which glass can I choose for each product?
| Product | Glass on offer online | Thickness (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| Shower and bath glass | Clear, grey tint, bronze tint | 8 or 10 |
| Shower and bath glass | Satin (etched), fluted (reeded) | 10 only |
| Splashback | Coloured (back-painted), low-iron; mirror splashbacks priced by hand | 6 |
| Mirror | Silvered, tinted, antique | 4 or 6 |
Shower, bath and splashback glass is always toughened. Mirrors are not toughened. For shelves and table tops, see thicknesses and spans.
Clear glass
Clear is the default for shower screens and enclosures, in 8 or 10 mm toughened. Standard clear glass contains iron, which gives it a faint green cast. You can see it at the edge of a pane, and through a pale colour across the whole face. For splashbacks, plain clear is no longer offered for new orders; low-iron takes its place.
Low-iron glass
Low-iron glass has almost none of that green cast, so white reads white and pale colours read true. Online it is offered for splashbacks only today. Low-iron costs more per square metre than clear. If you want low-iron for another product, ask us.
Grey and bronze tints
For showers and bath screens we offer Grey Tint and Bronze Tint in 8 or 10 mm toughened. In the configurator they sit under "Obscure & Tint Glass".
Satin (etched) glass
Satin glass, also called etched or acid-etched, is obscure glass: light passes through but the view is blurred. For showers it is offered as Satin (Etched) Glass in 10 mm only.
Patterned glass
Patterned glass is textured, so it obscures the view. Our supplier list carries four named patterns: Cotswold, Fluted (reeded), Stippolyte and Arctic. Online, fluted is the one on offer today, as Fluted (Reeded) Glass for showers in 10 mm. If it shows "Reeded glass: price to be confirmed, ask us", contact us for the price. For the other three patterns, ask us.
Mirror glass
Mirrors come in 4 or 6 mm, with polished or bevelled edges, and are not toughened. The finishes are:
- Silvered Mirror
- Tint mirrors: grey and bronze, plus blue and green in 6 mm
- Antique mirror: silvered, bronze, grey tint, Venetian and Griseo
Mirror splashbacks (silvered, tint and antique) are priced by hand for now, so the configurator offers a quote for them. Use the mirror size tool to work out a size above a basin, and read mirrors for more.
Back-painted (coloured) glass
Back-painted glass is coloured on the back, so the colour sits behind a glass surface that wipes clean. It is sold as a Coloured Splashback in 6 mm toughened. We stock four catalogue colours: Crispy White, White, Blue and Black. Any other RAL colour can be mixed to order; ask us for the price. Browse the RAL library on our colours page, and read glass splashbacks for the rest.
Will the colour on my screen match the glass?
No screen can match glass exactly. The swatches are approximations, every screen shows them differently, and lacquered glass reads a little glossier and cooler than a matt paint chart. Use the swatches to shortlist, then settle it with a sample. Sample packs are being added to our samples page. Until then, our counter is the place to judge a tint or texture in person; check the branches page before you travel.

Questions we get asked
Can I have low-iron glass for a shower screen?
Not online today. Low-iron is offered for splashbacks. Ask us if you need it for another product.
Which shower glass gives privacy?
Satin (etched) and fluted (reeded) glass are the obscure options for showers, both in 10 mm toughened.
Can I see a colour before I order?
Yes. Screen colours are only a guide, so judge a sample in your own light. See our samples page or visit the counter.
Are mirrors toughened?
No. Our mirrors are 4 or 6 mm and are not toughened. Every hole, polish and bevel is done at the cutting stage.
