You add holes, corner notches and socket cut-outs in the configurator before you order. Online we drill holes from 6 mm to 100 mm, and positions are measured to the centre of the hole. Every hole, notch and cut-out has to be made before the glass is toughened, so decide them all before you order.
What can I add to my glass?
| Feature | What you can order online | How the position is measured |
|---|---|---|
| Hole | 6 mm to 50 mm in 2 mm steps, then 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 mm | To the centre: X from the left edge, Y from the bottom edge |
| Hole over 100 mm | Tell us the diameter and we price it by hand | As above |
| Corner notch | A square cut from a corner, up to one per corner, inside corner rounded at 18 mm | X from the left edge to the end of the cut-out; Y from the top or bottom edge to the end of the cut-out |
| Socket cut-out | Splashbacks and mirrors, not shower or bath glass | To the centre of the socket |
How do I give the position of a hole?
X and Y are measured to the centre of the hole: X from the left edge, Y from the bottom edge. On shower glass, the left edge is the left as you look at the glass from outside the shower.
The smallest hole we drill is the thickness of the glass. On 10 mm glass, for example, the configurator does not offer 6 mm or 8 mm holes.
Does the configurator check the spacing?
Yes. It checks that holes are not too close to each other and that no hole falls outside the glass. If one fails, it tells you why, with the numbers, for example "Holes must be at least 36 mm apart, edge to edge."
How does a corner notch work?
A corner notch, shown as "Square cut (corner notch)", removes a rectangle from a corner of the glass. You can have up to four, one per corner. The inside corner of each notch is rounded at 18 mm; if a size is too small to take that radius, the configurator refuses it rather than shrinking the radius.
On a bath screen, corner cuts follow the hand of the screen: a left-hand screen takes them on its left corners only, a right-hand screen on its right corners only. Hinged shower doors take their hinge cut-outs only, not corner notches.
Can I have a socket cut-out?
Yes, on splashbacks and mirrors. Measure to the centre of each socket or switch from the same two edges every time, usually the left-hand end and the worktop. Give us the size of the plate as well, because the cut-out is sized to the box behind it. Shower and bath glass does not take socket cut-outs.
Why must everything be done before toughening?
Toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or notched once it has been made. Every hole and cut-out is finished first, then the glass is toughened. See toughened, laminated and annealed glass.
What is the 700 mm rule for fixed shower and bath panels?
On most fixed shower and bath panels, the panel's width decides how it is held, and the configurator adds any holes for you.
| Fixed panel width | Holes | How the panel is held |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 700 mm | None, and no option to add one | U-channel only |
| 701 mm and over | Two, added automatically: 200 mm from the top and 200 mm from the bottom | Two SWGC83300 wall brackets plus the U-channel |
The bracket holes are 20 mm across, with their centres 33 mm in from the edge that meets the wall. The U-channel is SWCH20X15X20 for 10 mm glass and SWCH15X15X15 for 8 mm glass. A panel with no edge against a wall, such as the return panel of a three-panel walk-in, gets no bracket hole.
The rule covers the fixed panels of:
- the fixed bath screen, and the fixed panel of a fixed and hinged bath screen
- walk-in screens fixed to the wall, and two-panel and three-panel walk-ins
- hinged enclosures with fixed panels, including the inline and corner layouts
It does not cover:
- the free-standing walk-in screen
- any sliding enclosure
- the single hinged bath panel and the folding bath screen
- a single door between two walls
- the doors themselves, which keep their hinge holes
Panels under this rule are priced and sold online with their brackets and channel.

Questions we get asked
Can you drill a hole bigger than 100 mm?
Yes. Tell us the diameter in the configurator and we price that hole by hand.
Can I add my own holes to a narrow fixed shower panel?
No. A fixed panel up to 700 mm wide under the 700 mm rule is held by U-channel only, with no holes and no option to add one.
Can you drill my glass after it is toughened?
No. Toughened glass cannot be drilled, cut or notched once it is made, so every hole is drilled first.
