To measure for a sliding shower enclosure, measure the opening wall to wall where the glass will stand and the height from the tray lip. On a layout with a return panel, also measure the return from the side wall to the corner. The configurator works out the fixed panel and the sliding door from your opening, so you never work out the overlap yourself.
Which sliding layouts are priced online?
| Layout | Fields | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed panel and sliding door | Opening width, Height | Online, sold provisionally |
| Fixed panel, sliding door and a return panel | Opening width, Return width, Height | Online, sold provisionally |
| Two fixed panels with the sliding door between them | Your measurements | Priced by hand |
| Two fixed panels and two sliding doors | Your measurements | Priced by hand |
| Corner entry with two sliding doors | Your measurements | Priced by hand |
Sold provisionally means the size step labels the glass sizes provisional, and our team checks them before cutting. On the three layouts priced by hand you still give your measurements in the configurator. The page then says "We'll work out the glass sizes from your measurements and send you a price."
How do I measure it?
Step 1: Mark the datum
Mark the tray lip or finished floor in pencil. Every height is taken from there.
Step 2: Measure the opening at three heights
Measure wall to wall along the line of the glass, at the tray, at waist height and near the top. Use the smallest figure.
Step 3: Measure the return if you have one
Measure from the side wall to the corner along the return, at three heights. Use the smallest.
Step 4: Measure the height at both walls
From the datum to where the top of the glass will be, at each end. Use the smaller figure. The track runs along the top, so check nothing on the ceiling or wall is in its way.
Step 5: Choose the slide direction
A sliding door is described by the way it slides to open, for example "Door slides to the right to open (fixed panel on the right)". It is never called left or right hand.
Step 6: Check the sizes and confirm
The size step shows how each pane was worked out. Read it, then press Confirm these measurements.
How does the configurator work out a slider?
The door and the fixed panel share the opening and overlap where the door slides past. The configurator works out the overlap and the allowances for the track, the guide and the channel. Each line of the breakdown starts with your figure, divides or adds where the layout needs it, and ends with the glass size. You do not have to allow for the runners or the overlap yourself.
What glass and hardware does a slider use?
Sliding enclosures are made in the same shower glass as every other layout: clear and tinted glass in 8 mm or 10 mm, satin and fluted in 10 mm only, all toughened with polished edges. Sliding enclosures take no wall bracket holes under our 700 mm rule, and their doors do not take the three hinged door seals. Read sliding enclosures for the track and rollers.

Questions we get asked
Do I add the overlap to my measurements?
No. Give us the opening wall to wall. The configurator adds the overlap and takes off the allowances.
Why is my two-door slider not priced online?
We do not yet hold every figure that layout needs, so we work out the glass from your measurements and send you a price.
Is a sliding door left or right hand?
Neither. It is described by the direction it slides to open, with the fixed panel on that side.
Does a sliding enclosure need wall brackets?
No. The 700 mm bracket rule does not apply to any sliding enclosure.
