How to measure for a bath screen

Measure a fixed, hinged or folding bath screen for our configurator: width from the wall, height from the bath rim, corner cuts and the folding panel split.

To measure for a bath screen, measure the width from the wall to where the outer edge of the glass will be, and the height from the top of the bath rim to the top of the glass. Take each more than once and use the smallest. The configurator works out the glass from those figures, and on a folding screen it splits the width between the two panels for you.

Which figures does each layout ask for?

LayoutFields
Fixed bath screenWidth from the wall, Height
Single panel (hinged)Width from the wall, Height
Fixed panel and hinged panelWidth from the wall, Hinged panel width, Height
Folding (two panels)Width from the wall, Height, Panel hinged to the wall (optional)

Hinged panel width is the finished glass width of the panel on hinges. The fixed panel takes what is left. The open end of a bath screen is free, so nothing is taken off there.

How do I measure it?

  1. Step 1: Measure from the bath rim

The screen stands on the rim of the bath, so the rim is the datum for every height. Measure up from the top of the rim, not from the floor.

  2. Step 2: Measure the width at three heights

Measure from the wall to where the free edge should finish, at the rim, halfway up and near the top. Use the smallest figure.

  3. Step 3: Measure the height at both ends

Measure from the rim to the top of the glass at the wall and at the free end. Use the smaller figure, unless the ceiling slopes.

  4. Step 4: Choose the hand

Left hand or right hand, viewed from outside the bath. The drawing shows the hand, so check it matches your bathroom. Choose it before you add corner cuts.

  5. Step 5: Add any corner cuts

If the glass has to clear a tiled ledge or a step, add a corner cut. Measure its width and height from the edges of the glass.

  6. Step 6: Confirm these measurements

Read the glass sizes on the size step and press Confirm these measurements.

How are the heights worked out?

A fixed panel stands in a U channel on the rim, so it is the measured height less 3 mm, and its wall edge loses 5 mm to the wall channel. A hinged panel is the measured height less 8 mm for the shower seal along its bottom. On a fixed and hinged screen the two tops line up.

How does the folding screen split?

The two panels of a folding screen share the width less 10 mm: 5 mm at the wall and 5 mm between the panels. We split what is left so the panel hinged to the wall is 20 mm wider. For example, a width of 850 mm gives 840 mm of glass, split 430 mm and 410 mm. You can set the panel hinged to the wall yourself, but it must be at least 20 mm wider than the folding panel.

Where can corner cuts go?

On the fixed bath screen and on the fixed panel of a fixed and hinged screen, corner cuts follow the hand. A left hand screen takes them top left, bottom left or both. A right hand screen takes them top right, bottom right or both. The inside corner of each cut is rounded, 18 mm at least.

A cut does not move the wall bracket holes. On a fixed panel over 700 mm wide the holes stay 200 mm from the top and 200 mm from the bottom, 33 mm in from the wall edge. Only when the cut itself would swallow a hole does that hole move, to 200 mm from the end of the straight wall edge that is left. Up to 700 mm wide there are no holes at all. See bath screens.

Where to go next

Questions we get asked

Do I measure from the floor?

No. Measure every height from the top of the bath rim, where the screen stands.

How wide can a hinged bath panel be?

Up to 800 mm. Up to 700 mm it takes two hinges, and over 700 mm up to 800 mm it takes three.

Can I put a corner cut on the side away from the wall?

Not on a fixed bath screen. Corner cuts go on the hand's edge only, and the configurator explains why if you try the other side.

Do I have to choose the split on a folding screen?

No. Leave Panel hinged to the wall empty and we split the glass for you.
