To measure a raked panel, mark which side slopes, then measure the other three edges: the two parallel edges and the straight edge between them. Type those three into the configurator and it works out the sloping edge. A raked panel keeps its other corners at 90 degrees. If two sides slope, or another corner is not square, send us a template or CAD drawing instead; there is no other shape choice.
The Shape choice offers Rake on shower and bath glass, splashbacks, mirrors, shelves and table tops. Raked shower and bath glass is priced online; on a corner enclosure, a sliding layout or a three-panel walk-in the job is sold provisionally and our staff confirm the rake before cutting. A raked splashback, mirror, shelf or table top is priced by hand for now: the configurator offers a quote instead of a basket price. This page is the general method. For showers under a sloping ceiling, also read raked and sloping ceilings.
What are H1, H2, W1 and W2?
Each pane is described by four figures, seen from the front. On shower glass the front is outside the shower.
| Figure | Edge |
|---|---|
| H1 | Left height |
| H2 | Right height |
| W1 | Top width |
| W2 | Bottom width |
The configurator says "Mark the side that slopes, then type the other three figures. We work out the sloped edge. Two corners stay square." The sloped edge is shown as the rake, worked out.
How do I measure it?
Step 1: Find the sloping side
Usually the top, under a sloping ceiling or a stair. It can also be the left or right side, against a wall that leans out of true.
Step 2: Measure the two parallel edges
For a top or bottom rake, measure H1 and H2, the left and right heights. For a left or right rake, measure W1 and W2, the top and bottom widths. Keep both figures. Do not use only the smaller one.
Step 3: Measure the straight edge between them
For a top rake, measure W2 along the bottom. For a bottom rake, W1 along the top. For a left rake, H2 on the right. For a right rake, H1 on the left.
Step 4: Mark the side in the configurator
Choose Rake under Shape, press Top, Bottom, Left or Right, and type the three figures.
Step 5: Check the worked-out edge
The configurator shows the true length of the sloping edge. Check it against a tape along the slope if you can reach it.
Step 6: Check H1 and H2 on the drawing
The drawing labels H1 on the left edge and H2 on the right. Check each figure sits on the edge you measured.
When must I send a template?
The rake editor takes one sloping side. If a second side slopes, or any corner is not 90 degrees other than the two at the ends of the rake, the configurator refuses it. Use "Send us a template or CAD drawing instead", which is always there under Rake. Upload a template or a drawing and our team prices it by hand. Read sending a template or drawing for how to make one.
Are there limits on a raked shower panel?
Yes, a few. On the fixed and hinged bath screen and on the walk-in screen fixed to the wall, only the top can be raked. Hinges cannot go on a sloping edge, so keep the rake on a fixed panel or an edge with no hinges.
On a fixed panel over 700 mm wide with a raked wall edge, the two wall bracket holes stay 200 mm from the top and bottom. Each is placed 33 mm in from the sloping edge, measured level at the hole's own height. On a run of more than one pane, the configurator follows one sloping line across the panes, so you measure the height at both ends of the whole opening.
How accurate do I need to be?
We cut to plus or minus 2 mm. A slope measured at only one point can hide a bow, so measure each edge at both ends and in the middle where you can.
Where to go next
Questions we get asked
Which three figures do I type?
The two parallel edges and the straight edge between them. The configurator works out the fourth, the sloping edge.
Can my glass have two sloping sides?
Not through the rake editor. Choose Send us a template or CAD drawing instead, and we price it by hand.
Do I measure the slope itself?
You do not type it. The configurator works it out, but a tape along the slope is a good check.
Can a mirror or splashback be raked?
Yes. Rake is offered on mirrors, splashbacks, shelves and table tops as well as shower glass. Those pieces are priced by hand for now, so you get a quote rather than a basket price.
