Compare glass quotes on the same specification

Check glass, hardware, preparation, fitting, VAT, delivery and approval conditions before choosing between quotes.

Compare the specification and scope before comparing the total. Two quotes for a “shower screen” can cover different pane counts, thicknesses, hinges and services. A lower total is useful only when you know what it includes.

Put these details side by side

ItemWhat to check
GlassProduct, pane quantities, dimensions, type, thickness and required processing
PreparationEdge finish, holes, notches, hinge cut-outs and preparation on the receiving pane
HardwareExact model, quantity, finish and compatible glass thickness
ServicesSupply only, measuring, templating, fitting and removal of existing glass
DeliveryMethod, postcode, unloading arrangement and any amount still to be agreed
PaymentNet, VAT, total, deposit and balance or approved account terms

For a replacement door, matching its width and height is not enough. A different hinge can require a different cut-out even when the finish looks identical. Ask for the actual product code and preparation drawing.

Read the qualifications

Look for provisional dimensions, a missing hardware choice, an unconfirmed colour or a line awaiting a site survey. These are things to settle, not small print to ignore. Check the quote's validity and acceptance instructions rather than assuming it remains open indefinitely.

Ask what happens if the survey changes the specification. Get the revised drawing, price and timing in writing before authorising the changed work. A payment receipt proves an amount was paid; it does not explain which revision the payment covered.

Give the team enough to compare

Send your pane list, sketches, intended use, postcode and any fitting requirements. Mark what you already own, such as existing hinges, so it is not silently included or left out. If you need a date, explain what depends on it and ask for confirmation.

Keep quotations, order confirmations and invoices as separate records. A quote is an offer for the described scope; an invoice and payment record show the amounts due and paid.

Use the quote page for a job that needs checking, and read quote payments and deposits before accepting staged payment terms.

Questions we get asked

Why do two prices for the same size differ?

Compare glass type, thickness, processing, hardware and services as well as dimensions. The same outer size can describe very different products, and one total may omit delivery or installation.

Should I compare the net or gross amount?

Use the same VAT basis on both quotations. Compare the total payable for the agreed scope, while keeping the net and VAT lines available to explain a difference.

What should I do with an allowance or provisional item?

Ask what remains undecided and how a price change will be agreed. Keep the answer with the quote; an estimate with unresolved items is not equivalent to a fully specified offer.
