Our configurator cuts shapes with one raked (sloping) side from four figures. For anything else, such as two raked sides, a curve or a corner that is not square, you send us a template or a CAD drawing and we price it by hand. In the configurator, choose Rake, then "Send us a template or CAD drawing instead". We accept JPG, PNG, PDF, DXF or SKP files up to 50MB.

When do I need a template?

Your shapeHow to order it
A rectangleType the width and height
One raked side, other corners squareChoose Rake and type three of the four sides
Two raked sidesSend a template or CAD drawing
A curve, an angle or an odd outlineSend a template or CAD drawing

With two raked sides, the configurator tells you: "This shape has more than one sloped side, so we cannot cut it from four figures." Read measuring raked panels for the one-rake shape.

How do I send it?

  1. Step 1: Choose Rake in the configurator

Open the configurator, choose your product and size, then choose Rake at the shape step.

  2. Step 2: Pick the template route

Press "Send us a template or CAD drawing instead". It is always there under Rake.

  3. Step 3: Add your file

Drag a file in or choose one: a photo, a PDF, a DXF or a SketchUp file, up to 50MB.

  4. Step 4: Give your email

We send the price to the address you give.

  5. Step 5: Send it for pricing

Press "Send my shape for pricing". We check the drawing, price it and confirm a CAD drawing with you before anything is cut.

How do I make a good paper template?

  • Use stiff card or hardboard, not thin paper that stretches or tears.
  • Cut it to the exact glass size, not the opening, and write "glass size" on it.
  • Mark which face is the front, and which edge is the top.
  • Mark the centre of every hole, and the size of any fitting.
  • Write the overall width and height in millimetres beside the shape.
  • If several pieces go together, label them A, B and C on the plan and on each template.
  • Photograph it flat on the floor, square on, with a tape measure in the picture.

For a small or medium shape, you can also trace it onto the 10 mm grid in our measuring pack and photograph the sheet. Print the pack at 100% scale and check its scale bar first. A traced grid explains a shape well, but write the main sizes on it too.

What should a CAD file show?

  • The units. A drawing in metres read as millimetres describes a different piece.
  • Written dimensions for the overall size, even when the file is drawn full size.
  • Each hole and cut-out, sized and placed from named edges.
  • The viewing face and the top edge, so the shape cannot be flipped by mistake.
  • A revision or date, and which earlier file it replaces.

What happens after I send it?

Our team reads every size and note you send. If something is unclear, we contact you before pricing. We check every drawing before we promise to make it, then email you a price. When you accept, we confirm a CAD drawing with you, and nothing is cut until you have agreed it.

Check that drawing against your template, including the hand and the position of every hole. Toughened glass cannot be trimmed once it is made, so the CAD drawing is the last point to fix a size. Read your drawing and checks.

Would you rather we did it?

If the shape is complex or the opening is out of square, we can come and template it for you. Read our templating service, or book a measuring visit.

Where to go next

Questions we get asked

Can I post a cardboard template to you?

Photograph it as above and upload the photo. If it is too big to photograph clearly, contact us and we will arrange how to get it to us.

My file is over 50MB. What now?

Export a compressed version, or upload a photo of the template instead.

Why can I not type two sloped sides?

Four figures only fix one slope with square corners. A second slope needs a drawing, so we price it by hand.

Can a photo replace a template?

A photo of the space helps us understand it, but the angle distorts the outline. Send measured sizes with it, or a template photographed square on.

Contact the team with your order reference and the step you need help with, or search all help topics.
