Check a shower door's swing and clearances

Check the moving door against the room, the fixed panels and the selected hinges before approving the glass drawing.

A door can fit its opening and still hit a basin, towel rail or toilet when it opens. Check the complete swing before ordering. The 3D preview helps you understand the arrangement, but it does not survey your room or prove that every obstruction clears.

Draw the room around the door

Mark the wall, tray edge, fixed panels and hinge side on a simple plan. Add the nearest obstruction at its actual position. Check objects at handle height as well as near the floor: a clear floor plan can hide a projecting tap or rail.

Keep the same outside viewing direction when choosing the door hand and checking the drawing. “Left” said from inside the shower describes the opposite side to “left” viewed from outside.

Check the parts together

  1. Confirm the exact hinge model and permitted glass thickness.
  2. Check which pane carries the hinge and whether a fixed partner needs receiving preparation.
  3. Review the door and fixed-panel dimensions after the layout's allowances have been applied.
  4. Check the seals and bottom clearance for the chosen arrangement.
  5. Confirm the usable entrance and the space needed to open, close and clean the door.

Hinged doors use the offered 8 or 10 mm glass. Do not change the thickness to solve a fitting problem without checking the hardware. Do not copy a deduction from another layout: a wall-hung door and a door hung from glass can have different relationships.

If the door will not clear

Reconsider the layout before manufacture. A sliding arrangement or an open walk-in changes how the space is used, but each has its own access and water-containment checks. Moving the hinge side can affect preparation on more than one pane.

Send the room sketch and the proposed design for review if a clearance is uncertain. Do not rely on trimming a delivered toughened door: that cannot be done.

Use door hand to fix the viewing direction, and drawings and checks before approving the final arrangement. For help with this task, contact the team with the relevant reference and the outcome you need.

Questions we get asked

Is the handle included when checking the swing?

Include its projection and the space for your hand. The glass may clear a basin while the handle strikes a towel rail, tap or wall at a different height.

Does a sliding door give the full enclosure width as access?

No. The fixed panel, overlap and travel limit affect the usable entrance. Check the opening left by the selected system rather than using the overall width as the entrance measurement.

Can I reverse the hand after manufacture?

Do not assume so. Hole patterns, cut-outs, fittings and adjoining panels can make a piece specific to its hand. Ask for a drawing review before changing the intended opening direction.
