Our configurator adds the hardware your shower layout needs: hinges on every hinged door, U-channel along the wall or floor edge of fixed panels, three seals on every hinged shower door, wall brackets on fixed panels over 700 mm wide, and a support bar on walk-in screens from 950 mm wide. You pick the finish. This page explains what each part does and when it is added.
Which shower hinge do I need?
There are two kinds of hinge. A wall-to-glass hinge fixes the door to the wall. A glass-to-glass hinge fixes the door to a fixed glass panel beside it, and is made for the angle the two panes meet at:
- 180 degrees: a straight run, door and fixed panel in line.
- 135 degrees: a splayed corner.
- 90 degrees: a square corner.
The configurator reads the joint from your layout. If a hinge does not suit the joint, for example a wall-to-glass hinge on a glass-to-glass joint, it is refused and the configurator tells you why. A hinged door must be 8 or 10 mm glass because the hinge has to grip it.
Hinge holes and cut-outs are made before the glass is toughened. Toughened glass cannot be drilled, notched or trimmed afterwards, so a hinge changed after ordering means a new panel. See holes, notches and cut-outs.
What U-channel does a fixed panel use?
A U-channel holds the edge of a fixed panel against the wall or the floor. We use two sections:
| Product code | Glass thickness | Stock length |
|---|---|---|
SWCH15X15X15 | 8 mm | 3,500 mm |
SWCH20X15X20 | 10 mm | 3,500 mm |
The channel is part of the system, not an extra. On a hinged enclosure where the door hangs on a fixed panel, that panel always gets its channel. A run that needs more than one 3,500 mm length is priced by our team rather than online.
Which seals go on a hinged shower door?
Every hinged shower door in an enclosure gets three seals, one of each, added automatically:
| Product code | Where it goes |
|---|---|
SWSS-307A | The closing (handle) edge |
SWSS-309B3 | The hinge edge, between the door and the fixed panel |
SWSS-309D5 | Along the bottom of the door |
You cannot remove them one by one. Fixed panels, return panels, bath screens and sliding doors do not take these seals.
When does a walk-in need a support bar?
A walk-in screen fixed to the wall gets a support bar from 950 mm wide. The bar is sold as a three-piece kit, priced together: an end bracket, a wall bracket and a 19 mm support bar. If you want the bar fixed up to the ceiling instead of the side wall, choose the ceiling kit, which swaps the end bracket for a ceiling connector. A free-standing walk-in in a floor channel is held by two support bars from above.
When are wall brackets added to a fixed panel?
This is our 700 mm rule for fixed panels on bath screens, walk-ins and hinged enclosures:
- Up to 700 mm wide: no holes. The panel is held by U-channel only, and there is no option to add a hole.
- 701 mm and over: two holes are added automatically, 200 mm from the top and 200 mm from the bottom, for two
SWGC83300wall brackets, plus the U-channel.
The rule does not apply to free-standing walk-ins, sliding enclosures, the single hinged bath panel, the folding bath screen or the single door between two walls. A panel with no edge against a wall takes no wall bracket.
What finishes does the hardware come in?
Our shower hardware comes in five finishes:
- Polished chrome
- Satin brushed
- Matte black
- Satin brass
- Polished brass
Two exceptions. Support bar kits are not offered in polished chrome. The SWGC83300 wall bracket is not made in polished brass, so it cannot be ordered in that finish. On a walk-in, the bracket follows the support bar's finish. You can browse the hardware on its own in our shop.

Questions we get asked
Can I fit my own hinges?
The hinge holes are cut before toughening, so we need to know the hinge when you order. Choose it in the configurator or ask us before you order.
Can I add a hole to a 600 mm fixed panel?
No. Fixed panels up to 700 mm wide are held by U-channel only, with no holes.
Do bath screens get the three door seals?
No. The three seals go on hinged shower doors in enclosures. Bath screens, fixed panels and sliding doors do not take them.
Can I have a polished chrome support bar?
Not at the moment. Support bar kits come in satin brushed, matte black, satin brass and polished brass.
