Trade accounts: how to apply and pay on account

What a trade account gives you, what you need to apply, how credit applications work and how the wallet trade card is used at the counter.

A trade account is free to apply for and has no minimum spend. It is built for glaziers, installers and shopfitters who order regularly: prices show excluding VAT when you sign in, you can pay on account once credit terms are set up, and statements arrive as PDFs. A manager checks every application, and we aim to come back to you within one working day.

What do I get with a trade account?

  • Prices shown the way you quote. Signed in to a trade account, the site shows prices excluding VAT by default, so the number on screen is the number you put on your own estimate. You can switch to inc VAT at any time.
  • Trade price book. Your account prices through our trade price book on the shop and in the configurator, when it applies to your account. There are no discount codes to enter.
  • Pay on account. Once credit terms are set up on your account, checkout offers "Pay on account" instead of asking for a card, and you are invoiced on your terms rather than per order.
  • Monthly statements. Your statements sit in your account as PDFs alongside every VAT invoice.
  • A trade card in your wallet. Add your trade card to Apple or Google Wallet and scan it at the counter.
  • Faster reorders. Past orders, saved sizes and saved lists are close to hand, and quick order takes a list of SKUs or a CSV file straight into the basket.

There is no annual fee for a trade account. A membership fee is switched off and is not charged.

What do I need to apply?

Apply from our trade page. Have these ready:

  • your company name
  • your company number, the 8-character number from Companies House, or write "sole trader" if you are not registered
  • your name and email address
  • one or two trade references we can ring
  • proof of your trading address: a utility bill, business rates bill or signed lease, dated within the last three months
  • photo ID for whoever signs for the account: a passport or photocard driving licence

What happens after I apply?

A manager checks the company details, your documents and your references. We aim to come back to you within one working day, and we email you either way.

How do I apply for credit?

Credit is a separate step from opening your trade account. A trade account is about how you buy; paying on account needs its own application once your trade account is approved.

  1. Step 1: Sign in to your trade account

Credit accounts are for trade customers, so your trade account must be approved first.

  2. Step 2: Fill in the credit application

From your account, give us your company number, legal entity name, registered address and trading address, and the name of a director or owner.

  3. Step 3: Add your accounts contact

Give the name, email and phone number of the person who deals with your accounts.

  4. Step 4: Choose the limit and terms you want

Enter the credit limit you are asking for, including VAT, and the payment terms: due on receipt, 7, 14, 30 or 60 days. The limit granted may be lower to begin with.

  5. Name two trade references and tick the consent to let us carry out checks, including with Companies House and the references you name.

A manager reviews every credit application, and the decision is emailed to you. Once it is approved, choose "Pay on account" at checkout. If you would rather talk it through, ask at the counter or contact us.

How does the wallet trade card work?

The card shows your name and account number, with a barcode the counter scans to bring up your account. Balances are never printed on the card. Ask at either branch, or sign in to your account online, for the up-to-date figure.

If wallet cards are not available on your phone, your account number does the same job, and the counter can look it up any time.

Questions we get asked

Is there a minimum spend or an annual fee?

I am a sole trader. Can I apply?

Yes. Write "sole trader" where the form asks for your company number, and send the same proof of address, photo ID and references.

Do I get credit straight away?

No. Credit is a separate application once your trade account is approved. A manager reviews it, and the limit granted may be lower to begin with.

Can I see my balance on my wallet card?

No. Balances are never printed on the card. Ask at either branch or sign in to your account online.
