Templating means we take the shape and sizes of the opening ourselves, on site, instead of working from measurements you give us. You book it as a measuring visit, which costs £75 including VAT and comes off your next purchase. The difference that matters most is responsibility: when you measure, the sizes you give us are yours to get right; when we measure, getting them right is ours.
When should I ask us to template?
Most rectangular openings can be measured at home with our measuring guide. Ask us to measure or template when:
- the opening is out of square, so the two diagonals are not the same
- the panel has two raked sides, or any corner that is not 90 degrees other than a single rake
- the glass is structural, such as a balustrade or a barrier
- the walls or floor are uneven and you are unsure where to measure from
- you would simply rather not take the risk of a wrong size
The configurator's shape step offers one raked side, with 90 degree corners kept. A panel with two raked sides needs a template or a CAD drawing, which our team prices by hand. Read raked panels for the single rake.
What happens on a templating visit?
Step 1: Book the visit
Go to the booking page, check your postcode and choose a time window. Pay the £75 fee by card to confirm it.
Step 2: Get the opening ready
Clear the area so we can reach every wall, corner and floor edge. Remove old glass or tell us if it is still in place. Tell us which surfaces are finished and which are still to change: a new tray, tiles or worktop after the visit can change the fit, so ask whether the visit should wait until they are done.
Step 3: We measure and template
We take the sizes wall to wall and record any slope, step or out of square corner. For an awkward shape we make a template of it.
Step 4: You get a written quote
After the visit we send a written quote. There is no obligation to go ahead.
Step 5: You check the drawing
Before anything is cut, you see a dimensioned drawing of every piece. Check it against what was agreed on the visit.
Who is responsible for the sizes?
Our terms are plain about this. When you enter or send us the measurements, they are your responsibility, so measure carefully and check the drawing. When we take the measurements, getting them right is our responsibility. If glass we measured does not fit because our measurement was wrong, that is ours to put right.
This is also why made-to-measure glass cannot be returned for a change of mind. It is cut and often toughened for one opening only. Read bespoke glass and your rights.
How does the £75 credit work?
The fee you pay at booking is a single-use credit. It comes off your next quote from us or your next online order for products or services, whichever comes first. It never takes an order below zero, and it lapses 12 months after the visit. Our guide to measuring visits has the full detail.

Questions we get asked
Can I make my own template instead?
Yes. Use the "Send us a template or CAD drawing instead" route in the configurator. When you supply the template, its accuracy is yours, as with any measurement you give us.
Do you template for glass you will also fit?
Yes. Tell us when you book that you would like fitting too, and we quote for both.
Is the visit refunded if I do not go ahead?
The fee is a credit against your next purchase. If we cancel the visit, we refund the fee. If you cancel it yourself, talk to us about the fee first.
Do you visit my area?
The booking page checks your postcode before you pay, so you know straight away.
