How our glass prices are worked out

What decides the price of cut-to-size glass: the rate per square metre, the minimum charge, toughening, edges, holes and cut-outs, and when a price is locked.

A piece of glass is priced by its area first. Our price book holds a rate per square metre for each glass type and thickness, and your piece is charged at that rate times its area, with a minimum charge on small pieces. The extras you choose, such as toughening, edges, holes, cut-outs and shaped corners, are then added line by line. The configurator shows the live price for your exact piece as you build it.

What goes into the price?

Part of the priceHow it is charged
The glassRate per square metre for the type and thickness, times the area
Small piecesA minimum charge applies below a certain size
TougheningToughened glass costs more than the same glass untoughened
EdgesEdge work is part of the price; a bevelled edge, where offered, adds to it
Holes, notches and cut-outsPriced for each one, shown in the price
A rake or shaped cornerAdds to the price of that piece
HardwareHinges, channels, seals and brackets priced from the same book

Toughening is a second process. The cut and finished piece goes through a furnace and is cooled fast, which is why it costs more than ordinary annealed glass. Read toughened, laminated and annealed glass for the difference.

How do I see a price for my piece?

  1. Step 1: Open the configurator

Start in the cut-to-size configurator and choose what the glass is for.

  2. Step 2: Type your sizes

Enter the width and height in millimetres. The price appears as soon as the size and glass are known.

  3. Step 3: Add your extras

Choose edges, holes and cut-outs. Each one changes the price straight away, so you can see what it adds.

  4. Step 4: Compare options

Try another thickness or remove a cut-out to see the difference. Nothing is ordered until you pay.

If you only want a feel for the numbers, our glass pricing page prints the rates per square metre, the minimum charge and the toughening surcharge from the live price book, with a calculator for any size.

Is the price on screen the price I pay?

Yes. The configurator, the pricing page and the basket all read the same price book the checkout charges from. Approved trade accounts see their own trade rates once signed in. See trade pricing.

Prices show including VAT for retail customers and visitors, and excluding VAT for signed-in trade accounts. The amount you are charged is the same either way. Read prices with and without VAT.

When is the price locked?

Once you have paid, your price is locked. If our system finds a difference between the amount you authorised and the amount it would invoice, it refuses the order and refunds you in full. It never charges one number and invoices another.

A quote is held at its quoted price until the date it is valid until. After that date, a quote is repriced from the live book before you can accept it, and the page shows both figures. See getting a quote.

What if a price is obviously wrong?

We correct genuine errors. If a price on the site is obviously wrong, we tell you before we take the order any further. You then choose between paying the correct price and cancelling for a full refund. This matches our terms and conditions.

Why do some pieces show no price?

Some selections are not priced online, such as a colour we do not stock or certain layouts. The configurator says why and offers "Request a quote" instead of "Add to basket". Our team then prices it by hand.

Where to go next

Questions we get asked

Why does a small piece cost more per square metre?

Small pieces carry a minimum charge, because cutting and finishing take the same handling whatever the size.

Do holes and cut-outs cost extra?

Yes. Each hole, notch and cut-out has its own price, and the configurator shows what it adds.

Is delivery in the price?

No. Delivery is confirmed for your area when you order. Our own vans cover London, and delivery across the rest of the UK is quoted at order; ask us first if your piece is cut-to-size glass. Collection from the branch is free. Read delivery, collection and lead times.

Can the price change after I pay?

No. A paid price is locked. If staff later change your order at your request, a higher total comes as a payment link and a lower one is refunded.
